The Friday Brief for September 11, 2026: Facility Openings and Expansions

Meanwhile, bioprocessing and drug discovery drove some of the major new partnerships of the week.

Editor’s Take: Facility news in the United States and abroad outshined some of the partnerships announced this week.

This week on “The Friday Brief” … Transcenta Therapeutics and its subsidiary HJB struck a deal with WuXi Biologics regarding Transcenta’s Highly Intensified Continuous Bioprocessing platform. Heartbeat.bio and Cubase Bio are linking up to research spatial profiling of human cardiac organoids for cardiovascular drug discovery.

1cBio granted Lee’s Pharmaceutical rights to develop a candidate to treat certain cancers in China and select Southeast Asian countries. Matica Biotechnology and Bondwell Technologies will collaborate to advance next-generation bioprocessing technologies for life sciences applications.

Transgene and ProBioGen are broadening an existing collaboration in a way that helps Transgene expand manufacturing capacity to clinical scale. And Owkin has reached another deal to license its K Pro AI scientist, this one with Servier.

Aside from that, new facilities are opening, or existing ones expanding. Gilead, one of our Top 20 companies—see that at contractpharma.com—opened a 182,000-square-foot research center in Foster City, Calif. Northway Biotech opened a cell therapy and personalized medicine facility in Lithuania, expanding its CDMO capacities in advanced therapies.

CordenPharma has expanded its injectable facility in Milan, capping off the equivalent of a US$93 million commitment. Charles River Labs says it successfully implemented its Endosafe Cartridge Technology Automated Manufacturing Suite.

Finally, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals joined South Piedmont Community College, in North Carolina, to mark the college’s opening of a 21,000-square-foot Aseptic Training Facility. This was purpose-built and developed with Glenmark’s support.
